Court Rejected Defamation Claim Against Our Client

A minister sued our client, a former ambassador, over his remarks on social media, the Taipei Dist. Court rejected the minister’s claim. The Court reasoned that our client’s remarks shall be protected by the Free Speech Clause.

The complainant, a government minister, claimed One Million New Taiwan Dollars (NT$1,000,000) and asked for a public apology from our client. The court rejected the claim and held that our client merely commented on matters of public policy and not for the purpose of insulting the minister. The judgement is appealable.

This case was led by our founding partner, Dr. Ching-Yuan Yeh, with the assistance of our senior associate Mr. Yi-Wei Chuo and associate Mr. Wei-Jiun Hung.
